Help with Writing Your Testimony

A clearly given and doctrinally sound testimony can be a powerful tool in the hands of the Holy Spirit to convict the lost and instruct the saved. A true testimony gives record to a changed life and the power of Christ which made it so. Three stages should then be expressed in one’s testimony:
- What one was like before salvation,
- What brought him/her to salvation and
- What life is like now that he/she is saved.
Every testimony should have at least one verse of Scripture which clearly shows the reason for the hope within the heart of the one telling it. This is very important.
Believers should continually keep near the cross, remembering their own salvation and all Christ and the Holy Spirit did to bring it to pass so that they can improve, not the testimony, but the telling of it. May Christ be honored by our testifying of His sweet salvation!
A testimony gives light to key biblical truths, primarily:
- God is holy and just but loving and merciful.
- Sin is damning and abominable leaving man with a debt that cannot be paid.
- Christ’s salvation is sufficient to pay the debt and sweet to the soul.
- The Christian’s rest in the finished work of Christ for salvation as promised in the Bible.
Four Guides
- Remember that you want your testimony to also help those who know little of the Bible
- Keep the testimony short and simple, but with enough detail for it to remain clear
- Pray that God would bless how you write it
- Remember most people mistake salvation as something someone must earn instead of being by God's grace
